2SICH Interview
June 06, 2023This week, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Anastasia, also known as 2SICH, a talented guitar player, musician, and YouTube creator. 2SICH has captured the hearts of many with her brilliant content, which includes entertaining music-related skits and captivating original tracks.
We highly recommend checking out her work on her YouTube channel @2SICH!
Let's dive into the interview and learn more about Anastasia's creative journey.
Interviewer: So Anastasia, tell us a little bit about yourself.
2SICH: Well, I don't have the goal of becoming one of the best musicians out there. My main focus is on creating entertaining videos and bringing smiles to people's faces. I believe that it's important not to take ourselves too seriously, especially within the rock/metal community. We should learn to laugh at ourselves and embrace the lighter side of things.
Interviewer: That's a refreshing perspective. How do you feel home recording is changing the industry?
2SICH: Home recording has made music production more accessible and has brought about a stronger sense of competition. However, I'm extremely happy that it has given people who can't afford expensive recording studios or equipment, or those who are simply too shy - like me - to make connections in the music world, a chance to create their own music using the convenience of home recording. And the best part is, you can achieve great results with just a limited set of tools!
Every musician has their own unique ideas and creativity to offer the music world. I'm grateful that I can bring my ideas to life, and these days, it's easier than ever before.
Interviewer: Absolutely. Do you feel like plugins sometimes unlock creativity in the studio? How?
2SICH: Definitely! Plugins play a significant role in unleashing creativity in the studio. They allow you to pick up your instrument at any time, day or night, and let your riffs soar with a volume knob turned up to 11. Additionally, various digital effects can help when you're feeling stuck during the songwriting process. I've experienced it many times where applying a new effect to my clean recording completely transformed the vibe of the track.
Since I don't perform live, I don't own a single guitar pedal, let alone a decent guitar amp. All the tools I need for now are on my laptop - dozens of effects and amp simulators. The best part is that I didn't have to sell my kidney to purchase them, as I probably would have to buy most non-digital guitar equipment out there!
Interviewer: That's a great advantage of the digital age. Moving on to Toneforge Disruptor. Which feature of Toneforge Disruptor do you find most attractive?
2SICH: I'm a simple girl, so I have to say virtual amps! I absolutely hate spending hours searching for a cool guitar tone, but with Toneforge Disruptor's three amps, it becomes easy and fun. The variety of tones you can create is beyond impressive. I also love the incorporated EQ feature, especially the Resonance Killer mode. It's a life saver for guitarists who just want to play for fun without spending too much time tweaking frequencies.
Interviewer: It sounds like Toneforge Disruptor has a lot to offer. What do you enjoy the most about making music?
2SICH: For me, it's the way a small melody you hum in the morning can evolve into something huge by the evening, as long as you trust your creative process. It can take unexpected turns, and I'm learning not to fear that. I genuinely enjoy developing the skill of bringing my creative vision to life. I have a lot to learn, but the process is truly exciting. And of course, the satisfaction and fulfillment of seeing a finished track in front of you, eventually sharing it with the world, is incomparable.
Interviewer: That's a wonderful way to approach music creation. Let's imagine you're going to a desert island and can only bring three albums. Which ones would you choose and why?
2SICH: Oh, that's a tough one! But if I had to choose, I would bring three metal albums that I'll never get bored of.
First, "As the Palaces Burn" by Lamb of God (2003). It's my favorite metal album ever. I love its brutal and "oppressive" nature. The guitar riffs are broiling and gruesome (in a good way), and the percussion sounds massive. I could listen to this album endlessly, and it always motivates me to pick up my guitar and play.
Next, "Terra Incognita" by Gojira (2001). It's such an underrated Gojira album. At first glance, it may seem like a simple death metal record, but it's so much more creative. It's weird, proggy, and groovy while maintaining a dark and meditative atmosphere.
Lastly, "Crack the Skye" by Mastodon (2009). It was challenging to choose a favorite Mastodon album, but this one is truly one of a kind. There has been so much said and written about this record. It's a classic of the prog metal genre, and its brilliance never ceases to amaze me.
Interviewer: Those are some excellent choices. Let's talk about JST plugins. Which ones are your favorite, and why?
2SICH: My favorite JST plugin has to be the JST Bus Glue Bundle. Although it can't magically fix all my poor recordings, these are the best compressors I've ever tried. They really make a difference.
Another favorite of mine is the JST BG-Guitars plugin. It takes your guitar tracks to a whole new level, and I absolutely love the results.
Interviewer: Those are great picks. One last question. Why do you think music is so important to society?
2SICH: As a musician, I'd like to answer this from the perspective of a music enthusiast as well. Music, at times, works like therapy. It may sound trivial, but many music fans would agree with me. Certain chords can unconsciously awaken memories or emotions, while specific lyrics can describe exactly what you're going through. Some songs have the power to trigger emotions you never knew existed. As Jim Morrison once said, music can be your only friend. It's a universal language that doesn't require words to understand. I believe music is truly magical!
Interviewer: That's a beautiful perspective on the power of music. Thank you, Anastasia, for sharing your creative background with us! And to our audience, make sure to follow her on Instagram at @2_sich for more amazing content.
